At Kliger Partners, protecting your privacy and the confidentiality of your personal information is important. Kliger Partners is subject to the National Privacy Principles ("NPPs") under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). The following Privacy Policy explains how Kliger Partners manages and protects the privacy of your personal information under the NPPs.
What is personal information?
Personal information is any information or an opinion, whether true or not, which identifies you. When personal information concerns certain matters it is considered sensitive information.
Sensitive information is information or opinion about your:

- membership of a political association;
- religious beliefs, affiliations or philosophical beliefs;
- membership of a professional or trade association or membership of a trade union;

- criminal record;

How Kliger Partners collects your personal information
Generally, Kliger Partners will collect personal information directly from you. Kliger Partners usually collects information such as your name, address, contact number and email address. Sometimes Kliger Partners also collects sensitive information about you, such as information about membership of an association or health information. Kliger Partners only collects sensitive information with your consent.

What happens if you don’t provide personal information
If you do not provide the personal information Kliger Partners' requests, Kliger Partners will not be able to provide you with effective legal services.
Kliger Partners may disclose your personal information
Kliger Partners has a duty to maintain the confidentiality of its clients affairs including personal information. This duty of confidentiality applies except where disclosure of your personal information is:
- With your consent
- Your consent may be given either expressly or implied from your conduct. Where the provision of legal services to you requires disclosing your personal information to a third party (eg. barristers and expert witnesses) your consent would be implied when you engage Kliger Partners unless you tell Kliger Partners otherwise.
- Compelled by Law
- For example: in response to a subpoena.
If Kliger Partners engages a third party contractor to perform services which involves handling personal information, Kliger Partners takes reasonable steps to prohibit the contractor from using personal information except for the purposes for which it was supplied.
Direct marketing and your privacy
From time to time Kliger Partners may use the personal information it collects about you to identify particular services and/or information which it believes may be of interest and benefit to you. Kliger Partners may then contact you to let you know about these services and information and how they may benefit you. Please contact us if you do not want to receive any of this information.
Accuracy of your personal information
If Kliger Partners has accurate personal information about you, it enables Kliger Partners to provide you with the best possible service.
Kliger Partners takes reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information Kliger Partners collect, uses and discloses is accurate, complete and up to date. Please contact Kliger Partners immediately if you find that the personal information Kliger Partners holds about you is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date. Kliger Partners will take reasonable steps to ensure your personal information is corrected.
Security of your personal information
Kliger Partners protects your personal information from loss, misuse, modification and disclosure. Kliger Partners uses industry standard safeguards to ensure the security of your personal information through physical, electronic and managerial procedures.

- code only access and alarm systems to prevent outside access to your personal information;
- internal policies in relation to secure computer use.
Employees of Kliger Partners access your personal information only in order for them to carry out their employment. Our employees are committed to maintaining confidentiality.
When Kliger Partners no longer requires your personal information Kliger Partners securely destroys the information and deletes it from its systems.
Access to your personal information
You may request access to any of the personal information Kliger Partners holds about you. Kliger Partners will, on request, provide you with access to the personal information Kliger Partners hold about you, unless there is an exemption which applies under the Privacy Act. For example, Kliger Partners may refuse you access to personal information where Kliger Partners has a legal duty of confidentiality or non disclosure.
Your request for access will be dealt with in a reasonable time. Kliger Partners may charge you a fee to cover the reasonable cost of retrieval and the supply of the information to you.
If Kliger Partners refuses your request for access, it will provide you with reasons for the refusal.
Transferring your personal information overseas
Kliger Partners does not transfer your personal information overseas unless Kliger Partners is authorised by law to do so or you have consented to it as part of the legal services Kliger Partners provides to you.
